This repository contains the high-performance scanner component for Greenbone Community Edition (GCE), responsible for executing vulnerability tests and collecting security insights.
The OpenVAS Scanner is a core component of the Greenbone Community Edition, focusing on performing active security checks against target systems to discover vulnerabilities. It is the engine that runs the Network Vulnerability Tests (NVTs) provided by Greenbone.
Addresses the critical need for comprehensive and automated network vulnerability scanning to identify security weaknesses in systems and applications.
Executes a vast and constantly updated feed of vulnerability tests (NVTs).
Supports scanning a wide range of network services and protocols.
Collects detailed information about target systems and potential vulnerabilities.
Provides fine-grained control over scan configurations and targets.
The OpenVAS Scanner is fundamental to performing various security-related tasks within the Greenbone ecosystem:
Perform comprehensive scans of internal and external network ranges to discover known vulnerabilities on servers, workstations, and network devices.
Provides a clear picture of network security posture, enabling proactive remediation of weaknesses.
Execute scans based on specific policy requirements to ensure compliance with industry standards or internal security policies.
Helps organizations meet regulatory and compliance mandates by identifying non-compliant configurations or missing patches.
Run targeted scans against specific hosts or applications to verify patches, test configurations, or validate the absence of specific vulnerabilities after remediation efforts.
Confirms the effectiveness of security fixes and changes quickly and reliably.
